The design for this cloth doll was inspired by a photograph in the Library of Congress collection depicting a small African-American girl sitting on a stoop. Nothing is known about her. The details of the photo  indicate that it is post Civil war (1865) and that her parents were more than likely sharcroppers. A tough life for a little girl. This inspiring cloth doll project contains detailed instructions, constructions notes and illustrations to complete the doll and her clothing. A remarkable tribute to the fortitude of newly freed slaves to persevere in hard times. The pattern is part a project to teach old fashioned sewing skills and history to young people.
